- Country:  DR Congo Project Title:  Maneima Food Security Project Project Number:  1515 The Need: The project will be implemented in 2 territories of Maniema Province, Kailo and Pangi. Due to the location of this Province and the logistical difficulties associated in reaching it [it is not accessible by road], it has been neglected by much of the humanitarian response in Eastern Congo. Despite the high number of internally displaced people (IDP) movements from Maniema and also from North and South Kivu where the conflict was intense for several years, Maniema has lacked external support essentially because the terrain is far more remote and isolated and therefore logistically challenging for humanitarian operations. The targeted communities as a whole are war-affected, although technically peace exists and hopes for the future have brightened following last year’s elections.
